Now we've reached the "shredder" territory
for the "Hopo" exercises. We will combine Hopo # 2 and
Hopo # 3 to create Hopo # 4. You might want to go back and review
the mentioned exercises before doing this. Remember to play slowly
and evenly before going for speed on all of these excercises.
H.O. P.O. Number Four.
Line up four fingers to four frets starting
with your first finger at the fifth fret. Placing your first finger on the first
string at the 5th fret, play that note with a down stroke of the pick.
Hammer your 4th finger onto the 8th fret, pull-off the 4th finger to the first
finger, still at the 5th fret. Then pick upward to play the next note under the fourth finger at the 8th
fret on the second string. That is the first part of the
lick. Now pick down on the first string with the first finger
still at the fifth fret. Pick upward at the second string with the 4th
finger at the 8th fret. Pull-off the 4th finger to the 1st finger
at the 5th fret of the second string. Pick upward at the third string
with your 3rd finger at the 7th fret. That is the end of the second part
of the lick. Now repeat the whole thing but start at the second
string.
Here it is in tablature.
